Guava (Psidium guajava) is a tropical or subtropical plant that produces round or oval fruits that can be sweet or sour:
- Leaves: Guava leaves have smooth edges and fuzzy undersides.
- Flowers: Guava flowers often have 4–5 white petals.
- Fruit: Guava fruits can be 4–12 cm long and have a yellow skin that can be rough or soft. The flesh can be white, cream, pink, orange, or orange-pink, and can be thick or thin. The flesh contains many small, hard seeds that can be kidney-shaped, flattened, and light yellow or yellowish brown. The number of seeds per fruit can range from 16–632, and they can weigh between 0.8–12.6 g. Guava fruits have a strong floral scent that’s similar to lemon rind, but less sharp.
- Size: Guava plants can range in size from small shrubs to trees that are typically 1–6 m tall, but can sometimes reach up to 10 m. They thrive in both wet and arid tropical-subtropical regions.
